San Miguel, Ibiza (Sant Miquel)
San Miguel is a small village full of rustic charm and the start to a much less developed coastline of north of Ibiza. The village high street offers all of the main services. Well worth a visit is the fortress church that offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The large white church was built between the 14th and 18th century and nowadays traditional folk dancing can be watched in the plaza of the church on Thursdays in the high season.
Also on Thursdays the local craft market it is held on the main square. Only goods produced in Ibiza are alowed such as pottery, fresh honey and water colour paintings. If you get hungry after your visit to the market you will find a good choice of small bars and restaurants. There are traditional restaurants serving tasty tapas, meat and fish.
If you wonder down to the Port of San Miguel you will find a pretty sandy cove with deep clear blue water. There seafood restaurants, water sports for young and old. Try the Port Balansat as it is reputed to be the best fish restaurant in Ibiza. The large natural bay faces North and has a pleasant breeze most of the year. The smaller Cala Multons beach is a short walk and is quieter with one small bar.
A very interesting local attraction are the 100,000 year old former smugglers caves. Can Marca Caves are now a stunning and popular tourist attraction with guided tours through the meandering walkways with underground lakes, waterfalls, and limestone work.
